Used Rolls Royce - The Phantom Drophead Coupe

The 2008 Phantom Drophead Coupe is a sight to behold. The Rolls Royce originally previewed at the Detroit Auto show in 2007, and the new version embodies the majority of the stylistic qualities of past Rolls Royce cars. I wouldn't be surprised if you just sat in the convertible and didn't bother driving. Of course it's not exactly the same, there are definitive differences, particularly inside, where pretty much every surface is different to the Sedan and the coupe's body length is significantly shorter than that of the Sedan, but nevertheless, the resemblance is uncanny. It's striking how out of all the car manufacturers in the world, Rolls Royce still manage to create cars which are the embodiment of unique quality and luxury, over 100 years after they created their first car. Adding to its uniqueness is the soft cloth top, in a car world where the hard top is the norm, and its Chrome door handles, again mirror reminiscent. It amazes me how Rolls Royce cars are still handmade and perfectly carved. The only plastic you are likely to find in this car is the radio, and even that is bound to be a flash one.

<br>In all honesty, the majority of us myself included who admire the cars introduced to the world by Rolls Royce will rarely be able to actually get in one unless you have a super nice friend with cash sticking out of their ears. The interior is stereotypically Rolls Royce, meaning the controls and gadgets are put somewhere completely unexpected in the Phantoms.

Angry Driving

When I first arrived into New York from North Carolina, or rather- even when I drove over the New Jersey border from Delaware, I knew that I was going to have to put on my "other" driving cap because I knew that the drivers were going to be much more aggressive than what I had grown accustomed to in North Carolina.

<br>Angry drivers are everywhere, and whether they want to admit to it or not, all that they do is make driving situations significantly worse for the rest of us drivers. I say that they make things worse because when someone is driving while angry, their driving is unpredictable. Often, they do not signal when they are changing lanes and the follow other drivers at a dangerously close distance. All of this driving behavior makes other drivers nervous and due to their nervousness, other drivers may attempt to get out of the way of drivers who are upset.

<br>I was driving on one of the local roads on Long Island, New York a few days ago when I saw a driver behind me was impatient and drover recklessly around me and several other drivers who were driving approximately five to ten miles over the speed limit. He was obviously speeding, but he was also speeding in a school zone! I watched as he weaved in and out of the two lanes ahead of us in his sport utility vehicle until he reached an older driver. I could tell that his driving had made the older driver nervous, and in an attempt to get out of this angry driver's way, the older driver put on their turn signal and attempted to get into the other lane, out of the way of the enraged driver. However, unknown to the older driver, the angry gentleman made a snap move to go around the older driver at the last minute without any warning. He did not indicate the direction he wished to travel by turning on his turn signal, and the result was a near accident between him and the elderly driver.

<br>At that point, I wished that there was a police officer who was nearby and happened to see what had happened. Failing that, I secretly hoped that someone else who witnessed this entire turn of events would call in this man's vehicle to the local police department. After all, what would have happened if that guy had hit the elderly driver? The elderly driver had done nothing wrong, but would they still be partly to blame somehow?

<br>Angry drivers inspire overly cautious reactions in other drivers, which often leads to more harm than good. Weaving in and out of traffic as well as following other drivers too closely is not only dangerous to other people on the road, but it is also considered extremely reckless. If anything, slow down just slightly so that they will driver around you. But, most likely, you're not. You're an office worker, reading this on your office computer, in your chair where you spend eight hours a day. No judgment! I too work in an office all day long. However, you and I should look out—recent studies show that spending your day seated has a high correlation with a radically increased chance of heart disease. So, unless you actually are a fire jumper, read on and learn what you can do about it!

A study published by Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise revealed a striking, almost terrifying correlation between sitting on your rear end all day and heart disease. The researchers studied the amount of time spent sitting and mortality in about 17,000 Canadians (aged 18-20) for 12 years and found that sitting almost all the time (excluding sleep, unless you're really crazy) increases your risk of dying from heart related diseases by 54% compared to sitting almost none or a quarter of the time. If you sit for three quarters of your day it increases by 47%, and half increases it by 22%.

<br>Think about it. Let those numbers sink in. If you spend your whole day behind a desk, the chances of your dying of a heart related disease go up by more than fifty percent. When you are on the road driving, there are so many things to think about. One of the things that people often don't think about until it is too late is animals. Santa Claus: Good Old 'Saint Nick'

The original idea of Santa Claus, (or Father Christmas in Britain, or Papa Noël in France, etc.) came from St. Nicholas. He was a very pious fellow, born in Lycia, Turkey, in the early 4th century. After his parents died, he totally dedicated his life to Christ and joined a Lycian seminary.

<br>It's been said that he performed miracles of the same magnitude as Jesus. One example that was particularly memorable was the raising of his arms to still a violent storm at sea. This prompted the people to name him the patron saint of sailors.
<br>While still quite young, Nicholas was appointed bishop of Myra, in Asia Minor. He became famous for his generosity, especially towards children.

<br>That image has obviously survived the ages. But it didn't impress the Roman emperor of that time, who threw him in prison. And there he stayed for many years until a new emperor, Constantine, came into power.
<br>
<br>Constantine was a Christian, and freed Nicholas, who became a member of Rome's first Church council in 325. St. Nicholas died on December 6, 342, but his name lived on. He was named the patron saint of Sicily, Greece and Russia, as well as the patron saint of all children.

<br>During his productive days, St. Nicholas used to ride from town to town on a donkey, converting people to Christianity, and helping the poor, especially the children. On December 6th, his Christian feast day, he'd leave gifts beside the hearth: fruit, nuts, candies, and wood and clay figurines. These were more practices that have been adopted by the modern-day Santa Claus.

<br>The Dutch were the only ones to hold onto the St. Nicholas tradition. They put an image of him on the prow of the first Dutch ship to sail to America. They also named the first church built in New York City after him. They brought a couple of other traditions with them, too.

<br>Back in the 16th century, the Dutch put clogs by the hearth on the night St. Nicholas was to come to leave gifts. They filled the wooden shoes with straw, to feed his donkey. St. Nicholas would leave a small gift in the clog in return.

<br>It was also the Dutch name for St. Nicholas that eventually became Santa Claus. The Dutch called St. Nicholas "Sint Nikolass", which got changed to the Americanized version, "Sinterklass". When the English took control of New Amsterdam in the 17th century, Sinterklass was Anglicized to Santa Claus.
<br>One aspect of St. Nicholas that's really changed is his appearance. He was a tall, slender man and, although he did have a long white beard, that was about the only physical resemblance he had to the jolly, big-bellied Santa Claus of today.

<br>There were two things that aided in his conversion – a poem and a cartoon. We really are influenced by the media, and that's a good example of it. One of the most famous poems ever written is "The Night Before Christmas", by Dr. Clement Clarke Moore. He wrote it for his children, and kept it within the family because he didn't want his peers, all classical scholars, to know he'd "stooped so low" as to write a simple children's poem.

<br>However, a "friend" took a copy of the poem and submitted it to a newspaper. It was quickly picked up by a magazine, and soon became published all across America. The description of Santa Claus in the poem gradually influenced people's image of him.
<br>The other influence that changed Santa's physical appearance was a series of cartoons by Thomas Nast, a cartoonist for "Harper's Weekly". From 1863-1886, Nast published a series of cartoons involving Santa Claus and his activities. They showed him during the year, making games & toys, checking on children's behavior, and receiving children's "wish lists". They also depicted him as increasingly roly-poly.

Railroads were needed to move bulk goods and tracks were laid. Someone learned to control electricity, and capital was used to move it from a generator out into even the most remote areas. Without capital to fund those offerings, most would have never gotten off of the drafting table or out of a board room. It takes capital to make such offerings and those that provide the needed capital deserve to be compensated both for the use of their capital and for the risk they take when they allow someone else to use it.</p><p>Now I am not here to argue against any other social model, but to simply say that it is wrong when people in a capitalistic nation try to vilify those who have funded the way for most of the goods and services which they enjoy.</p><p>I do understand that there have been capitalists who were so greedy that they took more than their fair share for the use of their capital. Or worse yet, they helped others to build up new ideas and create their dreams only to "force them out" when the profits came in. I "get it."
